Mi nombre es SHEYLY YOHANA SALVADOR NAVAS tengo 16 años, nací en San Pedro Sula el 17 de agosto del 2001, vivo desde que tenía meses de nacida en la colonia el Porvenir muy cercano a la comunidad del Ocotillo donde se encuentra el relleno sanitario de San Pedro Sula.

 Comencé a estudiar en la escuela Aurora Méndez de Dubón de la colonia las Magnolias de la comunidad del Ocotillo y cursé hasta el sexto grado.

Luego anhelada seguir estudiando, pero mis padres no pudieron ponerme a estudiar por falta de dinero.

Soy la hija mayor de 8 hermanos y junto a ellos y mis padres comencé a ir al Relleno Sanitario a trabajar a los 13 años, en ese lugar es un sacrificio que se hacía día a día y fue muy difícil poder seguir en la escuela y perdí dos años de no estudiar. Al cumplir mis 16 años todo cambió y nunca supe que al cumplir 16 años seria de bendición para mi vida.  Entonces conocí el programa Mejorando la Educación a los jóvenes del relleno sanitario (MEJORES) a de que promueve CMJ y SULAMBIENTE, y otras instituciones como Trerd international ellos me han apoyado y mi formación no formal y mi beca de estudio, ahora estoy en séptimo grado y estudio en el IHER (Instituto Hondureño de Educación por Radio), es un programa acelerado solo los fines de semana y estoy muy agradecida por la oportunidad que tengo de seguir estudiando.

Producto de los conocimientos adquiridos aparte de estudiar estoy laborando como asistente de maestra en la Escuela Grace International que está ubicado enfrente del Relleno Sanitario y los alumnos son los niños pepenadores, con lo que no solo tengo ingresos económicos, sino que me apasiona poder ayudar a niños que fueron como yo.

Dentro de mis pasatiempos me gusta jugar futbol, soy buena en ese deporte, de hecho, he participado en la ligar local, también escucho música juvenil y el trinar de las aves. A veces sueño que una de esas aves llevara mi historia a una persona que me pueda cumplir mi sueño. Yo prometo buenas notas honestidad y trabajo.

Mi mama sigue trabajando como pepenadora en el relleno sanitario, y mis tres hermanos, uno tiene 7, el otro 8 y mi hermana hembra 12 años.

Mi sueño es ser maestra, apoyar a mis hermanos a que estudien y que mi mama ya no siga en ese ambiente, también poder colaborar en educar a los niños de comunidad que no tienen los recursos y al igual desean una vida mejor y sé que con mi esfuerzo y la ayuda de CMJ y SULAMBIENTE lo lograré

My name is SHEYLY YOHANA SALVADOR NAVAS, I am 16 years old. I was born in san Pedro Sula on August 17, 2001. I live in El Porvenir, a community very close to El Ocotillo, where the landfill is located.

 I went to a school called Aurora Méndez de Dubón in Las Magnolias neighborhood and I studied all the way until 6th grade. When I finished 6^th grade I really wanted to keep studying but my parents didn’t had money.

I am the older of 8 brothers and alongside them and my parents I started working at the landfill, I was only 13 years old. When I started working on the landfill, since it’s a big sacrifice to do so, it was very difficult to work and go to school so I lost 2 years of school. When I turned 16, everything changed, I was blessed. I found out of the program called Mejores (We are Better)  which is promoted by Sulambiente, CMJ and Thread International. They have supported with my education with my scholarship, now I am in 7th grade and I study in the IHER (Weekend Program), it is an advance program on the weekends and I am grateful for the opportunity that I must keep growing. The education I have received lately has been very helpful in the formation of sexuality, Teen Pregnancy Prevention because in my community some of my Friends are already pregnant. Also, is important to highlight the Environmental Education and the help we received to practice some safety measures not only for me but for my family and friends as well when we work at the landfill.

As a product of the knowledge that I have acquired besides studying I am working as a Teacher’s Assistant at Grace International School which is in front of the Landfill Entrance, most of the students we receive in this school are collectors. I am very grateful that now I can have a salary to help my family and also, I am passionate to help children that can follow my path and help them become better persons.

Some of my hobbies are playing soccer, I am very good playing. I have played in the local league. I also like hearing music and birds sing. Sometimes I dream that one of those birds can take my story to someone that can help me accomplish my dreams. I would promise good notes, honesty and hard work.

My mother still Works as a collector at the landfill and three of my brothers, one of them is 7, the other has 8 and my sister that is 12. My dream is to become a teacher and help my brothers to start studying and that my mother stop working at the landfill. Also, help other por children from the community and that they want a better life. I know that with my effort and the help of the organizations that are promoting this program we Will get it done.
